The miracle in our hands

Life often places us in situations that feel impossible – whether it’s conflict at work, relational tension, or a problem that seems far beyond our control. Our instinct can be to see the limitations first, to worry that what we have is too little to make a difference.

In Mark 6:41-44, we read of a moment when Jesus fed 5,000 people with just five loaves and two fish:

“Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people. He also divided the fish for everyone to share. They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish. A total of 5,000 men and their families were fed.”

Mark 6:41-44

The disciples initially struggled to see how anything could come from so little – they wanted to send the crowd away, convinced it was impossible. In conflict, we can be like the disciples: we show up with our limited understanding and try to convince God with our arguments, insisting on what we think is practical or realistic.

Yet Jesus has a different way. When we bring our small, seemingly insufficient resources – our words, our patience, our willingness to forgive – he can turn them into something far greater than we could imagine. He invites us to trust him with the “impossible” situations in our hearts and relationships, to hand over what we have and watch him work a miracle.

How might your approach to conflict change if you truly believed that Jesus can take the small, limited things you offer and transform them into a blessing?

You can start today by inviting Jesus into the challenging situations you face, trusting him to multiply your efforts and guide your steps toward reconciliation and peace.
